GCBC Celebrates International Day of the Midwife with a Day of Giving

Today, Grace Community Birth Center celebrates International Day of the Midwife with an update from our Founder and Director, Ninotte Lubin:

Haiti can be a frustrating even chaotic place that limits one’s daily activities these days and causes one to forget what a life lived with true dignity and safety would look like. For many folks, getting through their day requires not being too aware of the realities, yet talk of change is in the air. We need the change so many talk of and work toward in whatever way they can, with or without the true means to create it, but are hopefully united as they seek and create support for change. I believe, one day change will come to Haiti.

Grace Birth Center is a part of the change we need. You see, we currently welcome babies every day in all kinds of violence and insecurity. Mothers and babies are dying too often because of the poor care and conditions - GCBC can make a difference and prevent unnecessary death. The construction of the center will bring about a change not just in the quality of care delivered, but also in the mentality of the Grand Bassin community and the surrounding communities that will lift them up so that they believe (especially the young people) a bit more in themselves and work to improve their wellbeing as well as their communities’.

Help me bring a bit more hope and love to my community so together we can create a better tomorrow through respectful and compassionate maternity care at Grace Community Birth Center.

Thank you!

All donations received by May 15 will be matched up to $30,000 thanks to the generosity of Kathi and Craig Mulder and two anonymous donors. We have thus far raised half of the match, and hope you will join these generous spirits and donate now:

If you would like to donate by check, please make it out to ‘Bay Eye Charitable Foundation’ with a note that it is intended for Grace Community Birth Center and mail it to Grace Community Birth Center, 530 W. 11th Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
